The City of London's urban forestry initiative is set to receive a $15,000 TD Green Streets grant to plant trees in industrial areas.
London is one of 25 municipalities selected by TD Friends of the Environment Foundation and Tree Canada to receive a grant.
The city says over 1,000 trees will be planted on Neptune Cres. east of Veterans Memorial Pkwy., and in a nearby parcel of land on Sovereign Rd., finishing the creation of a new woodland in that area.
"This is a great example of thinking outside of the box and a unique way to make London greener,” says London Mayor Matt Brown in a media release.
According to the city, 450 of the trees planted will fulfill a commitment Brown made at the Federation of Canadian Municipalities conference hosted in London last spring. The mayor promised to plant a tree for every delegate in attendance.
