Two arrested after police stop stolen vehicle

Despite initially speeding away from officers, two suspects in a stolen vehicle were tracked down and arrested by London police.

An officer on patrol noticed a suspicious vehicle in the area of Walnut Street and Cavendish Crescent around 10:50 p.m. on Tuesday. Through further investigation, the officer determined the vehicle had been reported stolen from an address outside the city earlier in the day.

When the officer attempted to stop the vehicle to speak with its driver, it sped away, police said.

The officer did not chase the vehicle, but instead provided a description to other officers in the area.

The suspect vehicle was found a short time later near Beaverbrook Avenue and Sugarcreek Trail.

The driver and passenger of the vehicle - a man and woman - attempted to run. They were arrested by police.

No injuries were reported.

A 43-year-old man and a 36-year-old woman, both from London, are charged with possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime not exceeding $5,000.

The woman is scheduled to appear in court in relation to the charges on January 14, the man will make his appearance a day later.
