St. Thomas stabbing suspect surrenders to police

The 54-year-old man wanted in a weekend stabbing in St. Thomas has surrendered to police.

Jeff Church went to St. Thomas police headquarters on Tuesday to turn himself in.

He had been wanted since Saturday on charges of aggravated assault and assault with a weapon.

The charges stem from an incident that happened in the area of Scott and Hamilton streets just after midnight. Police were called about a disturbance between two people who were known to each other. When officers arrived on scene they learned a person had been stabbed multiple times and had already been taken to hospital for treatment.

The wounds were serious, but non-life threatening, police said.

Church was identified as a suspect in the stabbing later the same day and a warrant for his arrest was issued.

He is scheduled to appear in St. Thomas court on Wednesday.
