One arrested in Delhi weapons investigation

A report of a person armed with a weapon led provincial police in Delhi to tell parents to keep their kids home from school Tuesday morning.

Norfolk OPP were called to a home on Gibraltar Street shortly after 7 a.m. where a person inside was allegedly armed.

"It was determined that an individual on the property was armed with an edged weapon and was making threats to harm police officers," police said.

Gibraltar Street between Crosier Street and Dalton Road was closed and residents were asked to shelter in place and keep their children home from school. Delhi District secondary school, Delhi public school, and Saint Frances Cabrini school are a short distance away from where the police investigation was unfolding.

By 10 a.m., the incident had come to an end without injury and the hold and secure was lifted.

"The individual was taken into custody without incident," said Constable Andrew Gamble. "Anyone who resides on Gibraltar Street and was asked to stay inside their residence for a period of time, thank you so much for your patience and cooperation."

A 23-year-old Norfolk County resident is charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm.
