The London Fire Department (LFD) is crediting working smoke alarms for alerting five people to a Sunday morning fire.
Fire crews responded to a blaze on Adelaide Street South before 7 a.m.
A social media post from fire officials said that working smoke alarms and an alert passerby are responsible for five people narrowly escaping the home.
The flames were extinguished and an investigation was completed by 7:40 a.m.
According to LFD, the fire was accidental and caused an estimated $8,000 worth of damage.
