Crash leads to impaired driving charge against Londoner

Impaired and careless driving charges have been laid against a London man after a two-vehicle crash near St. Thomas.

Emergency crews were called to the intersection of Wellington Road and St. George Street after two vehicles collided around 2:30 a.m. on Saturday.

No serious injuries were reported.

According to Elgin OPP, an officer observed signs of intoxication while speaking with one of the involved drivers. That individual was given a roadside sobriety test which they allegedly failed. The driver was arrested and taken to the local detachment for further testing, police said.

A 43-year-old London man is charged with careless driving and impaired driving with more than 80mgs of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. His licence has also been suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for seven days.

The accused is scheduled to appear in St. Thomas court in relation to the charges on May 28.
