Continued bus rapid transit work to close three OEV streets

Sections of three busy streets in London's Old East Village are closing until late summer as construction of the city's bus rapid transit (BRT) picks back up.

Starting Wednesday, Dundas Street from Ontario to Egerton streets, Ontario Street between Dundas and King streets, and King Street from Lyle to Ontario streets will be closed. The closure comes as planned carry-over work for Phase 2 of the BRT east London link resumes.

The work will see maintenance covers raised and marked with orange paint ahead of road paving planned for mid-summer. While there will be local road access to businesses, city officials advise anyone travelling through the construction zone to use caution.

Those wanting to park in the lot next to The Market at Western Fair District can do so from Rectory Street and Florence Street. Signage navigating drivers around the work into the lot have been erected.

Some London Transit routes will be affected by the work. Transit riders should visit the LTC website for detours and the most up-to-date service information, according to city officials.

The east London link is reshaping more than 6 kilometres of road from the downtown to Fanshawe College. It will see the creation of dedicated public transit lanes and the repairing and replacing of aging sewers, watermains and other underground infrastructure. It will also add active transportation elements to the area. Construction is expected to be completed in 2026.
