Dinner on Durham returns to Walkerton

About 250 people will don black and white attire, and dine right in the middle of Walkerton's main street this summer.

The Kinette Club of Walkerton is bringing back the Dinner on Durham event this summer to support the local food bank.

Kinette spokesperson Christine Brandt explained the plan.

"We'll be setting up tables and chairs right down the middle of Durham street and serving a community meal," she said. "We'll have some live music, and some drinks, and it's going to be a great event."

Brandt added that the idea is based on the popular Dîner en Blanc events, which involve 100,000 people internationally each year.

"This event is great for the town. There's nothing else like it happening in our area that we're aware of," revealed Brandt. "So the whole event is formal but not fussy. So we ask all of our guests to dress in black and white attire, and everything in terms of décor, the flowers, the glassware, the table settings, everything is a black and white theme."

Brandt says the food is expected to be fantastic as well.

"The Best Western Plus in Walkerton is catering our meal. They're offering two choices of entrees, as well as salad and vegetables," she outlined. "There's going to be potatoes, and dessert. It's going to be a full top of the line meal served by the professional chef at the hotel."

The event was put on hold during the pandemic, but Brandt is excited the Kinettes will once again host the downtown dinner.

"Unfortunately, if it rains, and we have had rain on one of our five years, we do have an indoor venue booked as a backup," she said. "We will move down further west on Durham Street to the agricultural building."

There are still tickets available for the Saturday, July 27, Dinner on Durham at walkertonkinettes@gmail.com
