A London man wanted for assault is facing more charges after a police cruiser was rammed during an arrest.
An officer with the Oneida Nation of the Thames First Nation Police Service spotted a man who was wanted for a domestic assault at a property on Lower Chippewa Road in Chippewas of the Thames First Nation shortly before 7 a.m. last Saturday.
The officer attempted to arrest the man, but he resisted, getting into a pickup truck before taking off from the area. During his escape the man hit a police cruiser, causing an undisclosed amount of damage. The officer was not hurt, police said.
Police found the man again a short time later and took him into custody without further incident. They determined the pickup truck had been previously reported stolen from London.
A 24-year-old London man has since been charged with seven offences including assault, assault with a weapon, dangerous driving, resisting a peace officer, escaping lawful custody, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, and failure to comply with undertaking.
