Suspect in October downtown shooting identified, charged

Nine months after a downtown shooting that sent two people to hospital, London police have issued an arrest warrant for a suspect.

Shaquille Martin, 30, of London has been charged by way of warrant with one count each of aggravated assault, discharging a firearm with intent to wound/endanger life, possession of a restricted or prohibited firearm knowingly not holding a license and three counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order.

The charges stem from an October 23, 2022 shooting in the area of Clarence and Dundas streets. London police were called after gunshots were heard in that area around 1:30 a.m. Officers spoke with witnesses, but were unable to locate any victims at the time. Two people later turned up in hospital suffering from non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.

Investigators with the major crime section took over the investigation and two weeks after the shooting released two surveillance images of a suspect.

On Friday, police announced Martin had been identified as the suspect. He has not yet been taken into custody.

Police are now asking the public for help finding Martin. He is described as Black, approximately 6’ 2”, 161 lbs, with a slim build, black hair, a goatee, and brown eyes. Anyone who sees Martin is advised not to approach him but to call 911 immediately as he is considered to be armed and dangerous, police said.

Anyone with additional information about the shooting can call police at 519-661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
