UPDATE: London men arrested for impaired driving and theft

Two men involved in separate incidents are facing impaired driving and theft charges.

Both incidents were reported to London Police Service within 24 hours of each other and both involved similar charges.

In the first incident, a 27-year-old man was found sleeping in a car Saturday morning around 10 a.m. in the area of Oxford Street West and Hyde Park Road.

When officers woke the driver up, he claimed he had no driver's license and didn't know who owned the vehicle he was in. After searching the car, police found numerous personal banking cards and identification cards which caused officers to arrest the man for possession of stolen property.

When the man stepped out of the vehicle police suspected him to be under the influence of drugs. As a result, he was also arrested for driving while impaired. Through investigation, police determined that the stolen property in the vehicle was from a break and enter that occurred earlier in the day. The vehicle itself was also discovered to be stolen.

In total, an estimated value of $5,600 worth of stolen property was recovered. The owner of the vehicle and the victim of the break and enter were both returned their property later in the day.

Daniel Vanwyk of London is charged with impaired operation, possession of break-in instruments, failing to comply with a probation order and three counts of possession of property obtained during a crime under $5,000.

In the second incident, police were called to the area of York Street and Maitland Street Sunday morning, after a damaged 26' moving truck was found abandoned on the lawn of a business.

A suspect was found shortly after and was arrested for impaired operation. Police later determined that the moving truck had been stolen the previous day.

A 27-year-old London man is now charged with impaired operation of a vehicle, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, and failing to comply with a recognizance of bail. He has a court date scheduled for Monday.
