London police arrest inept car thief

A London man faces numerous charges following a failed attempt at stealing a car from a parking lot in east London.

Police say they were called to 1206 Oxford Street East late Thursday morning after the owner of a 2000, four-door Volvo watched someone climb into his car, lock the doors, and try to take off.

During his attempt at stealing the car, the suspect drove over the curb, hitting two parked vehicles before getting stuck on a snowbank.

Officers arrived to find the man still inside the car, police allege the accused revved the engine in a last ditch effort in escaping. Eventually, the man was forced out of the car and arrested by London police.

During a search, police seized a quantity of crystal methamphetamine from the man. The 29-year-old is charged with theft of a motor vehicle, theft under $5,000, impaired operation of a vehicle, failure to comply with a demand made by a peace officer, and possession of a schedule I substance.

The accused is expected to appear in court on February 12 in relation to the charges.
