In the wake of what authorities are now calling a terror attack on a Muslim family in London, a teen in the city wants a date on the calendar to commemorate the loss.
Lilliam Hartley has started a petition that has over 15,000 signatures, and her goal is to have June 6 be Canada's 'National Day Against Islamophobia'.
"I decided to take some action against the attack that happened. I wanted to show the Muslim community a little bit of love and tell them that we care," said the grade 11 student at Sir Frederick Banting Secondary School. "So, we can celebrate them, and remember those who were lost."
On the third day the petition was up, there were over 1,000 people signing in one hour periods, according to Hartley.
The petition calls on Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Minister of Canadian Heritage Steven Guilbeault to create the day.
"I'm hoping that (politicians) are able to see my petition fairly soon," Hartley said.
