Relief from the sweltering heat will be short-lived across southwestern Ontario as hot, humid conditions return to the region on Saturday.
Storms pushed out the sticky weather that had hung over the area since last weekend, making for a slightly cooler, less humid day on Friday. However, the reprieve will last just the one day.
Environment Canada is forecasting daytime highs both Saturday and Sunday in the 30 C range. With the humidity, it will feel more like 37 C to 42 C outside, the weather agency warns.
Temperatures Saturday night are expected to only go down to between 20 C to 23 C, which does not provide much of a break from the heat.
Environment Canada has put a heat warning in place for Windsor-Essex, Chatham-Kent, Middlesex-London, Oxford County, Elgin County, Sarnia-Lambton, and Huron Perth. Much of southwestern Ontario has been under a heat warning all week.
The extreme heat could lead to heat-related illnesses. Symptoms include swelling, rash, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heat stroke, and worsening of some preexisting health conditions.
To prevent heat-related illness, health officials advise people to drink plenty of water, limit time spent outdoors, take a cool bath or shower periodically to cool down, and avoid intense or moderately intense physical activity.
More seasonal temperatures are expected to arrive in southwestern Ontario by next Tuesday.
