Man charged in pharmacy robbery, theft

A London man is facing charges after a robbery at one pharmacy and a break-in at a second.

According to London police, at around 8 p.m. Friday, a man went into the Shoppers Drug Mart at Wharncliffe Road and Baseline Road, jumped over the counter, and assaulted a cashier. He then put several items in a bag. When another employee tried to stop the man, that employee was also assaulted. The man then took off with some stolen electronics.

"The incident was captured on video surveillance, and police were contacted. There were no reported injuries," police said.

Less than two hours later, police got a call after a citizen was alerted by the sound of broken glass and saw a man leaving the Shoppers Drug Mart on Commissioners Road and Wonderland Road through a broken window. The citizen gave police a description of the man, and police determined it was likely the same man from the incident earlier in the evening.

"Police attended the area, and located discarded clothing belonging to the suspect," police said. "An LPS Police Service Dog (PSD) tracked and located a male suspect nearby."

Police say they found stolen property from the pharmacies.

A 32-year-old London man is now charged with robbery with violence, failing to comply with a release order, and break, enter, and theft.

Anyone with information in relation to this incident is asked to call the London Police Service at (519) 661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Information can also be sent in online anonymously to London Elgin Middlesex Crime Stoppers.
