Western Fair back after two year pandemic pause

Londoners will once again be able to ride the ferris wheel and fill their faces with corndogs and cotton candy as the Western Fair returns to in-person fun this fall.

The Western Fair Association (WFA) made the announcement on Wednesday that the annual event will run from September 9 to 18. The fair has not been held since 2019 because of the COVID-19 crisis. The past two years saw pared down virtual offerings only.

The theme of the 2022 Western Fair is "happy days."

"An ode to what many of us are feeling in the event industry after two years of shut-downs and restrictions” Reg Ash, CEO of the fair association, said.

While additional information about attractions and entertainment at the fair will be released later this summer, a comprehensive list of competitions including best-in-class art, photography, crafts, and culinary have been posted online. A call has also been issued for food vendors, exhibitors, and people interested in taking on one of the various operation rolls of the 10-day event.

Advance super passes, which include a ride-all-day bracelet and fair admission, went on sale on Wednesday, while $10 early bird tickets to the fair will be available as of June 1.

"We want everyone to have the opportunity to be happy and enjoy a day at the fair in 2022, we all deserve that,” said Ash. “WFA is pleased to launch kids 10 and under and seniors 70 plus are free at Western Fair... and we are holding our 2019 gate admission price of $15 for 2022 to keep the fair affordable, at a time when everything costs more.”

The Western Fair is one of London's largest community events and is considered one of the province's top ten events. More information about the fair can be found at westernfair.ca.
