Lyft has brought its rideshare service to London

Londoners looking for a ride have a new option.

Lyft has brought its ride-hailing app to the city.

The company launched the rideshare service in London and Kitchener-Waterloo on Tuesday. This is Lyft's first foray into southwestern Ontario.

"Riders can choose Lyft for a reliable ride–whether running errands, going to the airport or meeting up with friends to explore the city," the U.S. company said in a statement.

Founded in 2012, Lyft expanded into Canada in 2017, offering service in Toronto. It later launched in Ottawa, Vancouver, Calgary, and Edmonton and has provided more than 68 million rides to more than 2.5 million Canadians.

In London, Lyft will be in direct competition with Uber, which brought its rideshare business to the city in July 2015.

People interested in driving for Lyft can apply online at Lyft.com.
