Woman Injured in London Fire

A woman is in hospital following a fire Saturday night.

London Fire officials say they were called to an apartment building on Fanshawe Rd West after a fire was reported in a fourth-floor unit.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire to that unit, but an elderly woman, the only occupant of that unit, was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.  There was no additional word on her condition late Saturday night and her name is not being released pending the notification of family members.

The fire does not appear to be suspicious, but the fire inspector, London Police and the Ontario Fire Marshal's Office are investigating to determine what happened.

Damage is estimated at $20,000.

Anyone with information in relation to this incident is asked to call the London Police Service at (519) 661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
