Knights trample Spitfires 5-1

The London Knights shot down the Windsor Spitfires 5-1 on home ice at Budweiser Gardens Friday night.

London's Colton Smith managed to get the Knights on the score board first with a goal 3:15 into the first period. Spitfires skater Daniel D'Amico attempted to score on London's net however, referees quickly waived it off when it was deemed a kicking motion. Both teams spent the remainder of the first frame trying to get the puck into their opponents net with no luck ending the period 1-0.

As the second period began, Smith scored a second goal 3:48 in against Windsor putting the Knights even further ahead. D'Amico retaliated less than a minute later and was successful this time around allowing the Spits to trail 2-1.

With a little over 10 minutes left into the period, London forward Stuart Rolofs gave the team a third point with assists from Liam Gilmartin Isaiah George. The Knights continued to put shots into the Spitfires' net when Max McCue scored London's fourth goal of the game finishing the period 4-1.

Windsor continued to trail further behind London during the final period when Sean McGurn put up a fifth and final goal for the Knights 3:57 into the third frame defeating the Spitfires 5-1.

Spits goaltender Xavier Medina defended his net 32 times out of 37 shots on net. Knights goalie Brett Brochu also made 32 saves out of 33 shots.

London will hit the road Saturday to play the Sarnia Sting at 7:05 p.m., while the Spitfires get a break before taking on the Owen Sound Attack next Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
